On 12 August the long-awaited 28th International Olympiad in Informatics will kick off, and Kazan is ready to welcome guests to the city.
Over 200 IOI student-volunteers from all over Russia and abroad assembled in the Universiade Village for orientation, before taking part in a huge flash mob with students from the IT-lyceum on the Village’s “Alley of Flags”. Volunteers arranged themselves to form the five Olympic rings in honour of the fact that this will be the first International Olympiad in Informatics to feature students from all five continents. A further metamorphosis saw them spell out the initials I-O-I, leading to some impressive aerial shots.
Everybody, volunteers and coordinators alike, cannot wait for tomorrow, as once guests and participants are comfortably settled in the Universiade Village, the IOI 2016 opening ceremony will take place in the KFU assembly hall.
