A meeting of the Organisational Committee was held at the Ministry of Education and Science RF to discuss the preparation for the XXVIII International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), which will be held in Kazan, Russia, in 2016.
Present were Dmitrii Livanov, Minister for Education and Science RF, and Nikolai Nikiforov, Minister for Telecom and Mass Communications RF, both of whom are members of the Organisational Committee.
The Minister for Education and Science noted that preparation for the Olympiad is already in full swing. “With a programming competition of this scale, it is of paramount importance to maintain complete control over proceedings,” he said.
Also present at the meeting were First Vice-Rector of Kazan Federal University Riyaz Minzaripov, who presented an update of preparations for the Olympiad, and Chairman of the IOI 2016 International Committee Vladimir Kiryukhin, who gave a presentation on the state of preparations for the planned February 2016 meeting in Kazan, which will involve representatives from 10 countries.
Also mentioned in the speeches was the official website of the Olympiad ioi2016.ru, which was shown to the members of the Organisational Committee at the XXVII IOI in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and made available to the public in July 2015. The Organisational Committee representatives chose the location where the XXVIII IOI will be held and actively began their search for volunteers. The selection process is thus already underway, and final recruitment and training will begin on 14 December 2015.
The Organisational Committee have also taken the decision to invite spectators from countries yet to send participants to an IOI (IOI regulations dictate that participating countries must be UN and/or UNESCO members). It is worth noting that the Olympiad competitions are already contested by students from 83 countries, and registration for country-participant teams for the 2016 Olympiad will be open from January.
The Organisational Committee will next meet in April 2016 at the closing stage of the XXVIII All-Russia Olympiad in Informatics.
