Rector of KFU passes IOI flag over to Iran

On 18 August, the closing ceremony of the XVIII International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2016) took place.

Many prestigious universities from around the world are ready to open their doors to winners at the Olympiad without the need for exams, and the largest enterprises in the IT industry would gladly welcome them into their ranks.

President of the IOI Krassimir Manev was very pleased with IOI 2016:

“I feel that this year everything has gone right. The Russian team is one of the most experienced: it has been in the IOI from the very beginning, and consistently holds informatics competitions at regional, national and international level. Its experience at scientific, technical and organisational level is vast. I can say that of the whole history of the IOI, this year has been one of the best. Most of all I like how everything here is in one place – it’s very inconvenient when the accommodation is a long way from the where the competition is held. That has happened before. In addition, Kazan has had an unseasonably warm August. It’s important to remember that the children are the most important part of these events – competitions are very stressful so it’s important to create the most comfortable, peaceful surroundings for them we can.”

The most significant moment of the closing ceremony was the handing over of the flag of the International Olympiad in Informatics. The holders of this year’s Olympiad passed the flag to representatives from Iran, for IOI 2017 will take place next year in Tehran.

“This is my first time in Kazan, but I can say with absolute certainty that it is a lovely city,” said Hossein Shojaei, Deputy Minister of Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran, after receiving the flag.
