In between the competition days and the other organised events, contestants at the IOI have a bit of free time. Each team spends theirs differently.

The Belorussian team, for example, go outside and play sport. At the Universiade Village they mostly play volleyball. And back home they have a real programmer’s hobby – they’ve formed an eSports team.

As you’re all already aware, the Swiss team loves walking barefoot, explaining to surprised onlookers that it’s totally normal in their homeland. They also love to sit on the asphalt and play cards. They prefer using their own deck, as it’s “a little bit of home” – the backs are all adorned with Switzerland’s most famous landmarks. If you want to play, bear in mind the team aren’t so fond of Russia’s favourite game "Durak", but will happily explain the rules of their own games and share some Swiss chocolate with you.
